You can tell a lot about a person by their preference for… Scout cookies. When it comes to character-defining foods, these treats peddled by enterprising girls are pretty much at the top of the list. And don’t get me wrong; The battle over which cookie is the best essentially dates back to the early 1900s – that’s when these little confectionery delights began to be sold to fund troop activities.
The good news in this endless war is that there really are no losers. When it comes to Girl Scout Cookies, everyone wins (especially if your research requires you to sample all the flavors). We can’t talk about the all-new Lemon-Ups just yet (they’ll be available soon!), but we can guarantee there’s no bad Girl Scout Cookie flavor.
Yet we are nothing if not competitive, and ranking these cookies provides some comfort. Also, I think we both know that not all Girl Scout cookies are created equal. So sit down, open a can of your favorite strain, and browse our totally unscientific and personally biased countdown from least to most favorite Girl Scout Cookie.
Let’s all be honest with ourselves here: these lemony spheres are sorely lacking when you compare them to other Girl Scouts lemon cookies (more on that later). We’re not saying we’re not going to smash an entire round this second, but still.
You give a girl enough golden caramel, and she can rule the world. But the caramel drops in these crumbly cookies are far too small to fuel any kind of caramel revolution. Long live caramel! Or rather, long live more caramel!
8. Do-si-dos/peanut butter sandwiches
If you are a peanut butter fanatic, this is definitely the cookie for you. PB is so rich and creamy it stays with you. Like, literally – it’s one step away from establishing a residence in the roofs of our mouths.
7. Caramel chocolate chips
Finally, the Girl Scouts have released a more classic chocolate chip cookie! New to the lineup this year, these even have rich caramel and a hint of sea salt. So, yeah, we’re not mad at them. Did we mention they are also gluten free?
Call us purists, but we love a good shortbread cookie. And these have a bit of nostalgic appeal since they’re shaped like the Girl Scouts’ signature shamrock. Bring on that crispy, buttery goodness.
5. ABC Bakers Girl Scout S’mores/Little Brownie Bakers Girl Scout S’mores
Yes, Girl Scouts sell two different types of S’mores cookies. But you may only ever be able to taste one or the other, depending on what market you’re in.
4. Thank you very much
We’re not saying these chocolate-covered shortbread wonders could give Pepperidge Farm Milano Cookies a hard time, but… no, wait, that’s exactly what we’re saying. Indeed, thank you!
3. Peanut Butter Patties/Tagalongs
It’s our deep-seated opinion that peanut butter patties don’t get enough fanfare. In fact, they’re dangerously close to making it straight to the top of the list thanks to layers of crunchy cookies, creamy peanut butter, and a delicious chocolate shell.
2. Fine mints
While we realize Thin Mints are the top selling Girl Scout cookie flavor, we’re pretty sure that’s just because people who eat Thin Mints buy more of them to account for the fact that they are, you know, thin. Don’t get me wrong – they’re delicious and we don’t blame anyone for hoarding boxes.
1. Caramel Samoas/Delites
All hail the ultimate cookie ever made: Samoas! We’re pretty sure the stairway to heaven is paved with this utterly lovely mix of caramel, chocolate, cookies and toasted coconut. Seriously, they’re like a hug from an angel. They take our taste buds to a higher place. You get the picture.
