Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Cookie Recipe: A Vintage Cut-Out Cookie Recipe | Cookies

My grandmother loved to cook. From pies and cobblers to cakes and cookies, everything she baked was delicious. Here’s her old-fashioned cookie dough recipe for die-cut cookies. Unlike your typical die-cut cookie dough, this one doesn’t contain butter and requires buttermilk. This cookie recipe is easy to prepare and bake.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Cream the shortening and sugar together. Add the eggs, beating well after each. Stir in buttermilk, flour, baking powder and vanilla. Mix well.
  2. Roll out the dough as thick or thin as you want. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters.
  3. Bake in a preheated 350 degree F oven for about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the size and thickness of the cookies. The cookies can be glazed or decorated as desired after cooling.
