In honor of Swift’s 10th album, the Swifties have once again taken over the internet by preparing the Taylor Swift chai cookies, who Swift made famous on Tumblr almost eight years ago. But hey, we’ll grab any TSwift-inspired recipes we can make this week, while we have Midnights repeat.

I was reminded of the singer’s go-to dessert choice since its popularity in 2014 and was immediately inspired this time around to recreate the sweet, chai-infused confection with an added twist of my own.
Similar to the “Sirty Shirley” that was popular earlier this year, these “dirty chai” cookies take the comfort of a childhood treat and elevate it to adult status.
Dirty chai cookies are a mix of the popular chai drink, made a little “dirty” with espresso mixed into the batter. The final dough is covered in raw turbinado sugar before sending them to the oven to give them a bit more sweetness. Dirty Chai Dessert is everything you love about TSwift’s original chai treat, with a light coffee flavor.

To make her chai cookies, Swift follows Joy the Baker’s basic sugar cookie recipe and adds chai tea leaves instead of spices. She also glazes them with eggnog flavored milk frosting.

How to Store Chai Cookies
If your family is anything like mine, these cookies won’t stick around long enough to store. If needed though, the cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to five days, or frozen for up to a month.
Ingredients Needed to Make Dirty Chai Cookies
- plain flour
- baking powder
- instant espresso powder
- brown sugar
- turbinado sugar (optional garnish)
How to Make Dirty Chai Cookies
- Mix the butter and sugars with an electric mixer.
- Add eggs and vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, mix your flour and spices.
- Stir the combined flour into the egg mixture.
- Drop in heaped tablespoons (or more if you like larger cookies). about 2 inches apart.
- Sprinkle the tops of the cookies with turbinado sugar if using.
- Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes.
- Remove and let cool.
