THE annual Victorian Baking Fair, traditionally held in Shepparton, will now be in Bendigo this year. The free two-day event, organized by the Baking Association Of Australia, will be held at the All Seasons Hotel in Bendigo on February 26-27. Association CEO Tony Smith said there was a push for the bakery show to be a regional event, moving to different areas of Victoria each year, with Bendigo chosen as the location this year. Other news: GAT changes: All grade 12 students will be tested for literacy and numeracy Mr Smith said the baking show is helping support regional Victoria as bakers and spectators arrive from all over Australia, encouraging them to stay, shop, visit, eat and drink in the region. The show takes place six weeks before Easter to give bakers time to prepare and promote their hot rolls ahead of the holidays and the famous hot roll competition. The event will feature bakers proudly offering an assortment of baked goods such as breads and pies, and will also have the opportunity to compete for Australia’s Best Hot Crossbread, Best Vanilla Slice of Australia and the Victorian Coaching Trophy. Other news: Previous pastry fairs have attracted more than a hundred contest participants. The winner of Best Hot Crossbread and Best Vanilla Slice wins a week of promotional events, including a visit from local mayors to the winning bakeries, and prizes the bakeries can give away to their customers, helping to boost bakery business.
